Some Interesting Facts About the ASAE Conference

I spent this evening planning out my workshop schedule for the ASAE meeting that starts this weekend, and to do so, I reviewed each of the “learning lab” workshops at www.asaeannualmeeting.org. As I went through, just out of curiosity, I kept track of a few things, which led to some very interesting statistics.
I counted 285 speakers/panelists identified on the site (some folks speak more than once so are counted more than once). Of those 285 slots:
- 51% (146) are vendors or consultants.
- 49% (139) are association-employed practitioners.
- Of the 141 workshops I counted, 16% (23) have a speaker/panelist lineup comprised solely of association-employed executives.
Of the 139 association exec speaker/panelists, 83% (115) work for individual membership organizations.
I’m sitting in the Delta Club at National Airport waiting for the first leg of my trip to San Diego. Seeing this posting was interesting since I haven’t decided what sessions to attend. It also got me thinking about the increasing sense of community among consultants.
Where are my trades? I led an idea swap for trade associations at last year’s annual that was well attended. I am excited to hear DTJ for trades is in the works, but I would love to see more things for trade associations.
So, what is your opinion about these statistics, Kevin?
